Pagan Moots & Groups in Glasgow
The pagan scene in the Glasgow area seems to have exploded in recent years. There’s a lot happening, and it can be difficult for people to keep track of the moots and groups meeting in and around the city. This is an attempt to bring together the information about the meetings I know about. The information is correct, as far as I know, at the time the page was last updated.
Two points to note: 1: Do check details with the moots’ organisers before going to any of these for the first time, because venues and times can change at very short notice (even occasionally on the day of a moot); in particular, moots in December, particularly around the end of the month, may change date, time or location; and 2: should a moot listed as taking place on the first Tuesday, Thursday or whatever of the month fall on the first of the month, that is still when it will take place: I don’t know why this should cause confusion, but, as I regularly get queries about it, clearly it does.
The list is in roughly chronological order.
If there are any mistakes please let me know at glasgowmoots@gmail.com.
In response to feedback, I have added a page giving information about Pagan events in Scotland.
If you are running a moot elsewhere in Strathclyde, especially in what might be called the “Greater Glasgow” area, let me know about it and I will put its information on a new page.
For those in the Glasgow area who come to moots or who are interested in coming to moots, there is a Yahoo! group where information can be circulated about what’s happening. It is a fairly low-volume list, open only to people in the area (so you will have to tell us who you are if we don’t recognise your email address). You can apply to join by entering your email address here (make sure you get it right!):

Glasgow City Centre Moot
First Thursday of every month

Glasgow University Pagan Society
Usually first Monday of the month (during term)
7:00pm – various locations on campus; get in touch for information.
GUPS was founded in 2001 to provide a meeting place for pagans and anyone interested in it, and to provide support for those experiencing religiously motivated hatred within the University. It also aims to help members network with the wider Glasgow pagan community. We meet monthly during term for workshops, talks and discussions.

The Hearth
Second Monday of every month
7:30pm – back room in Samuel Dow, Nithsdale Rd. (map)
Glasgow’s longest-running moot, which celebrated its tenth anniversary in 2005, moved from the city centre in 2003 to a South Side venue. Most moots have a speaker. The Hearth is run by Wiccans and has a Wiccan focus but pagans of any tradition are welcome. Note that the Hearth, with Children of Artemis, organises Witchfest Scotland (see events page).

Ursa Major Moot
Second Monday of every month
7:30pm – back room in Samuel Dow, Nithsdale Rd. (map)
This moot takes the place of the (sadly no more) Hearth moot. Same place, same time, many of the same faces. The direction of the moot is still to be settled.
-
Pagan Network family moot
Third Saturday of every second month
1:00pm – Yates’s, West George Street (map)
The Pagan Network family friendly moot is restarting on a bimonthly basis in Yates’s, at the corner of West George St. and Renfield St. Young pagans aged 15–21, whether starting out or just interested, are welcome. First moot of the year is in February.

Caer Clud Grove
Third Sunday of every month
2pm – downstairs in Blackfriars, corner of Bell St. and Albion St. (map)*
Caer Clud is an open Druid group based in Glasgow. All who are drawn to or interested in a Druidic path are welcome. Caer Clud has moved away from holding a moot eight months of the year to working as a grove (not affiliated with a specific order), with monthly meetings which will either involve a workshop or a seasonal ritual.

Yggdrasil
Last Thursday of the month
7:30pm – The Ingram Bar, Queen Street. (map)*
Yggdrasil is a Heathen group, founded in 2003. The main focus at the moment is on relatively informal pub moots, but we also hold blóts and symbels from time to time. Although a Heathen group, those not Heathen but interested in the religion are also welcome. Yggdrasil is an independent moot, not connected with any Heathen organisation. Note that the December meeting may not be on the last Thursday of the month. NB: There will be no Yggdrasil moot in July or August 2007.
